*~Summer~*

Once again, I've failed at posting once again, haha~

Well, first off I've been working really, really hard at my summer job. This week is actually the last week, but I am trying to see if I can work there part-time after the summer is over. When I first worked there, I had some doubts, but now I actually enjoy working there, it keeps me busy, up and about. Plus it gives me money! So hopefully I can get the job, and if not here, then I will have to look elsewhere. And that sucks!

Surprisingly enough, I haven't spent much on my money... ok, that is a lie. On Lolita, it may be the truth though! I have no clue where my money went! Gone just like that... I don't even remember what exactly I spent it on. That's terrible. The last things I do remember, is gladiator sandals, a hoodie, a short red dress, and some AGEHA magazines (that were on sale, by the way @w@). Oh, and my bikini! It's sexy~

But I guess I spent the rest of the money on food and whatnot.... really embarassing. I could've had so much money right now! Ah well, two more paychecks to go.

One of my favorite AGEHA models, Sumire, had died early in June of brain hemorrhaging. So young, may she rest in peace.

Michael Jackson had also died, at the end of June, and not only me, but nearly the whole world stopped. He was such an inspirational influence in my life and I will never forget him. He felt like he was part of my family, even though I have never seen him in person. May he also rest in peace.

My cat had died at the end of July too, for a week I was devastated. The depression spread like a virus, and soon I was doubting myself about everything... if you have ever felt that kind of pain towards yourself, you know what I'm talking about.

The next week though, I realized that I couldn't go on the way I was, so eventually that became the week of "Feel Good". I went shopping, had gotten my hair done, among other things. Next I might do a bit of overseas shopping for Lolita and some other clothes, and then get some supplies and start decorating my cellphone again~ this time with the right permanent glue, so it can actually look nice! Tired of crappy silicone glue and Krazy glue. Looks like crap!

I really wanted to make a collage of my inspirations were for this summer fashion style, but I couldn't get around to it... ah well. Always next year! Now I'm getting ready for school again. I guess it's time to focus on my school style, though there wouldn't be much if I couldn't afford to get new things, haha.

Last weekend I hung out with my friends, and made some new friends.

We went to Flushing for some purikura. REAL Japanese purikura, by the way, not the cheap Chinese place in Chinatown! Surprisingly it was more affordable.

~Sakura Matsuri & Japan Day~

I haven't been on Blogger lately... Sorry about that!

I'll be participating in a new blog that is going to be launched soon, called "The Daily Frill".
It is, of course, about Lolita, haha. It will be launched on July 1st!

I suppose this will be much more of a personal journal now. Oh well!

~~~~~~~
Anyways, I suppose it's time to update on a few things.
Since Dances of Vice, nothing too special happened...
There was Sakura Matsuri in the beginning of May. That was a terrible weekend, so much rain! I finally bought a yukata out of peer pressure (ha!) and wore it on one of the days. Unfortunately it was the worst day out of the two, and my hair died, and I looked a mess. Not to mention I didn't really know how to put on a yukata that well at the time. The other day I just wore lolita, and I hung out with all my lolita friends and had a picnic.
I finally met two online friends from the gyaru commmunity that day, we were all in yukata and after the festivities were over we hung out in the city for a bit. While we were at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens though, we got stopped by some photographers from New York Magazine and got our photo taken. I wonder when that was or will be released~ even though we left our e-mail with them, they never did message us. Or at least message me. Another gyaru friend was there in yukata as well but she didn't come with us.
Then, at the end of the month was Japan day. I wasn't too interested in going but I went anyways, and I went in my yukata. It was a really lovely day, it was actually quite hot. I missed most of the activities though because I was doing my hair, bleh, but I managed to hang out with my friends for a while.
I got a little bit used to dressing myself in the yukata, but it was still really hard to walk in small steps so it wouldn't become looser. Of course, I failed in doing that. (How can you NOT? It's freaking New York City! Rush-rush everywhere!) Oh well. It was also my first time wearing false lashes, I'm becoming much better at applying them.
It was all good fun, and hopefully next year the weather will be better
HAPPY 1000 VIEWS
Thank you for 1000 views! (Well, quite a bit over 1000 now) A bit late in posting but I really do appreciate the support. <3
So for your amusement, if you had remembered my previous post about Team Facelift?
Well, they released that video a while ago. It is completely random. Completely random.
NSFW. A lot of fake blood and stuff.
I had the unfortunate experience of falling ill to a viral-induced fever for a week near the end of March... but that didn't stop me from attending one of the most epic events I've been to (And it better not have! I spent so much on my outfit!).
Dances of Vice was created by the ever beautiful Shien Lee (it was such a pleasure meeting you!), that serves as a blast-from-the-past nightlife event with strong aesthetics and influences from the 1920's-30's, as well as the occasional Victorian and Rococo themed events. The guests themselves are part of the excitement, as they use such creativity to make unique and beautiful outfits for this once-a-month event.
March's theme was the Vernal Equinox ball; the coming of the (finally apparent) spring season. There were unicorns/horse themed outfits, fairies, greek nymphs, as well as Satyrs. I was going for a greek nymph look, but I got mostly "Awwwww unicornnnnn" or "upside-down ice cream!" because I had a horn on my head and was wearing all white, haha. It was all good though.
But before I was able to slip into my outfit, I modeled for my friend Samantha Rei for her lolita brand, Blasphemina's Closet. I would describe her work as more of the Gothic and Classic themes of lolita, rarely you will see any overtly-sweet colors in her work, at least without something dark to go with it! All the outfits modeled at DoV was gorgeous, I wanted all of them, including those from other lolita and Neo-Victorian brands Megan Maude, Apatico, and Scoundrelle's Keep. All the models were beautiful and had done such a lovely job as well!
Here are some photos from the fashion show.
Though I ended up missing most of the performances (and the dance lesson!) because of preparation for the fashion show, but the rest of the night was absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed being around so many friends and updating each other on life stuff, you know, girl talk. I had some of the girls (and guy) stay over my house for the event and it was just such a wonderful weekend. I will most definitely go again! And while my description of it is trash, I hope you take the time out to go to an event too, haha.
The other week I tuned into Rip the Runway '09 on BET. I hardly watch TV, let alone BET (sometimes the content on their channel is extremely stereotypical to me), but Rip the Runway is one show I look forward to every year.
Overall, the fashion show was pretty good. Bobby Valentino and The Dream had some pretty good performances, though G Style Boys pretty much killed themselves with the "Stanky Legg" song (God, I hate songs like that). Some of the lines were kind of boring, but there was always at least one outfit from each designer that really stood out for me. But here are my top favorites from the show:
Akoo: Rapper T.I.'s fashion line. I feel that his line might become quite popular, and while [to my understanding] it's mainly a male clothing line, during the run there were examples of a lot of the tops being more unisex as sexy divas walked the runway in a military-like style, wearing the shirts with big belts, something that is probably going to come back in style this summer/fall. (And hopefully more girls will get it right this time around!) As for the men's style, I enjoyed it more because of the fact that it seemed more 'clean-cut', if you know what I mean. If a guy was walking down the block near my house in one of those outfits, he would definitely stand out from the rest of what I honestly think of sloppy work. Men should dress to impress all the time, or at least look like it, whether they are in their basketball shorts or in a business suit. Speaking of b-ball shorts, this brings me to the next line...
Protege: Had the models not lift up their shirts every second I would actually have a good opinion of this! I have seen ads in the subway and stuff for Protege, but never really their clothing until this show. While a lot of their stuff are sportswear, they also have some good designer items, and those really appealed to me more.
Korto Momolu: One thing I really love about Korto's work is the fact that she goes back in her roots with her stuff. Most outfits I can easily see where the African inspiration is put into her work, whether it is the clothing designs, or the jewelry, or just simply the silhouette and the flow of the outfits. Very mature, very flattering, and visual. There was hardly anything I didn't like in her collection.
And last but not least, Douglas Says. I think I was most fascinated by this out of all the things in the fashion show, for the simple fact that it was plus-sized things. Good plus-sized things, at that. Some of the color schemes were really flattering, while others were sort of drab, maybe one or two outfits I felt wasn't flattering at all, but when the swimwear came out my mouth dropped. The models looked wonderful, sexy, confident, and they definitely defined the "Big and Beautiful" line. Not to say that Monif C didn't have awesome outfits, but Douglas Says pretty much hit it off being the first to go.
New York Fashion Week
This Tuesday me and some of the girls met up with our Brazilian friend Haku. ♥ I enjoyed seeing her again! In the morning time there was a Sephora event going on at their 5th avenue store for The Real Housewives of NYC. Unfortunately I got there late, but some of my friends happened to get some of the awesome gift bags they were giving out. Deluxe makeup sets and brush sets and other little things were in each of their bags, their value being well over 200 dollars, I was extremely jealous! Lucky b's.
I met up with them at Kinokuniya's Cafe Zaiya, where we sat down for a while before going to look at their magazines and stuff. I had bought a hot chocolate to go with the delicious chocolate cupcake I had (with cream cheese icing on top!) from Magnolia's. I had eaten one of their cupcakes before when my friend Laura took me there, and the place is just awesome. I've also had eaten cupcakes from Crumbs, but I definitely recommend Magnolia's more. For some reason, they are much less messy, and in my opinion more richer in taste than Crumbs' cupcakes. That, and I also dislike the fact that Crumbs would close their shops early when they run out of cupcakes for the day! Craziness! Meanwhile it seems that at Magnolia's they are made right then and there, so if they run out you can probably go back later to find more fresh cupcakes waiting. ♥
One day I also want to go to Milk & Cookies bakery. On Friday the 13th, my teacher's boyfriend had these delicious oatmeal cookies delivered to her at the school! She shared one with me, and it had to be one of the most delicious oatmeal cookies I've ever tasted. I need to go back! Need to!!!
Maybe one day I'll go specifically for a review on places like these. ♥
Anyways-- (see I ramble on too much?)
After that we went to see Coraline in 3-D at AMC on 42nd street. It was such a good movie. Like some of my friends expressed though, definitely a bit too scary for small children. It really reminded me of those old European stories that were made for kids to stay obedient. There also was a bit of I guess what would be 'implied nudity' at one scene, which was really funny but shocking at the same time. But in general the storyline was nice, I loved the animation and how it evolved since works like The Nightmare Before Christmas. The 3-D feature of the movie wasn't overpowering, and while I've seen some complain about it not being very strong at all, the 3-D feature is supposed to pull you in, not go crazy and see crap being thrown at your face and whatnot.
But yeah. ♥ Overall it was an excellent movie, and I'll probably go and find the book to read soon. I'll try to make a more tidier review later.
After the movies we all pretty much seperated, with the exception of me and Aya. We went to the New York Fashion Week tent for a bit. Well-- she actually got in and saw a show (TiBi's, I believe). I wasn't risking trying to sneak in just to get kicked out, I'm too chicken! In any case I looked around the main lobby for a while. It was nice, not really what I had in mind but then again it's about the fashion shows, the other things are just there for sponsorshop and advertisements, right? The Bryant Park fountain was lined with a Barbie display, and there was other things like McDonald's "McCafe", I laughed at that.
I had my photo taken by photographers, too! It was fun, but now I'm a bit worried because I was dressed in lolita. I'm afraid where that photo will end up, not so much of what's going to be said about it. I hope I didn't do some ridiculous posing... I'm kind of disappointed though, that I didn't take my chances, but maybe next time we'll see. Hopefully I'll be able to go to an actual fashion show.
All in all, I had yet another great time with my friends. I hope you have a safe flight home, Haku! ♥ Hopefully I'll have pictures soon.
